Exquisite with Laughable Portions

Posted by StevenRhykerd0 on 8/3/2009

My wife and I were looking for a place to take my mother for Easter. We found Lilys On Main on the internet and thought, Easter Lily’s, lets have a Sunday drive from Valley Forge to Lily’s on Easter. Though I expected the restaurant to be in a colonial building in Ephrata, we were impressed with the office building stairway entrance to the second floor with flowing water over marble walls. We were even more impressed with the art deco decor of the dining room and bar. We were cordially seated by the window with a beautiful view of Main Street Ephrata. I ordered an assorted appetizer consisting of three bites. They were delicious, and the three sample appetizer was beautifully presented in a sauce painted white rectangle dish. For an entrée, I ordered surf and turf. When the dish was presented, I thought what a small Filet Mignon. I wish I was exaggerating, but the filet was no bigger than a sea scallop. The crab cake was the size of an immature sand dollar with more green pepper and assorted fillings than crab meat. Why is it hard to find a crab cake with just crab meat? We of course had room for desert and I found that to be the best course. I read that Lily’s was named after the chief’s/owner’s daughter; maybe that explains the children’s portions.

Amazing experience

Loved the whole experience. From the friendly staff and great service to the amazing food presentation to the jaw dropping taste of our apeteizers, the fresh salad, the Howards Bread, and of course the main course was to die for. No more for dessert.......... So we went back 2 weeks later and made sure to do it all over again plus have the biggest piece of chocholate cake i have ever seen for dessert. Our new favorite place for a romantic dinner. We travel to Philly a lot and to Maniunk for great meals but looks like we can save an hour and some drive and just head 25 min down the road to LILYS ON MAIN......

Great food and brilliant decor but....

Doesn't deserve 4 stars, but is better than average. Very expensive - $32 for lunch entre and dessert WITHOUT a drink per person! Decor is fabulous art-deco, food better than average, quality of service is very good/excellent, but way too slow. Two hours plus for lunchtime. I just can't say it is a good value. What really blew it for me - I ordered a $7.50 dessert, wanted only a few bites and take the rest home. Well they chopped off more than half of it so they could smash it into a small hamburger foam box. That is just wrong IMHO.

A must if you are in Lancaster County

My husband and I were in Ephrata on our way home from Nova Scotia. At our motel someone recommended Lily's. We were completely surprised at the quality of this restaurant. You would have thought you were in NYC except for the prices. The Art Deco decor is fantastic and the food excellent. I had the calves liver dish for dinner and it was to die for. We liked this restaurant so much that we are planning on detouring through Ephrata on our vacation in August just to have lunch at Lily's. Don't miss this restaurant if you are anywhere near Ephrata or do as we are doing---go out of your way just to have a meal there.

Well worth the travel!

We traveled from Philadelphia to meet friends at Lily's for dinner and were just delighted at our choice! Everyone was very friendly and attentive! The food was excellent and beautifully presented! It was difficult to choose just one dessert, they all looked delicious! We definitely plan on going back to Lily's again!
